Are you letting your vision light your way? Five thought processes that you must avoid.

Your purpose lights your way. Your reason on the planet heals you.

Utilized correctly, your best life in action will beat out so much of the activities and thoughts and possessions that don’t serve you. Sometimes we get a little addicted to the journey and we forget there are also moments I’ll call “recovery,” where you stop, take a breather and really look at what you see.

I imagine your purpose-driven vision like a head lamp. We had to strap them on over our warm knitted hats so we could see where to step in the final ascent to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It was a tough combination—the rocky and uneven rocks upon boulders and the darkest night, lit only by more stars than you could imagine.

If you looked up, you would see climbers by their bobbing lights, a sign another person was attempting to conquer the mountain. You couldn’t see anything but the stream of light from the lamp, but that was enough to take a step forward and then another, until you were at the top.

You have this light. It comes from your activities, your feelings, your results, your desires. This week is about reading the signs, receiving the messages, in anticipation to start another 100-day cycle. You know more now. So you’ll do better.

There are few things that will keep you from “seeing” what you need to understand so you can plan. Who wants to keep repeating the same mistakes? I don’t! There are new troubles to conquer, new ceilings to break through. Here are five things to avoid as you bravely pursue your best life.

  • Expecting yourself to be perfect.

First of all, it’s never going to happen. You are not prone to perfection. You are designed for imperfection. Remember, every mis-step, each happenstance, all the whoops-a-daisies, can have a purpose. Creativity. New Guidelines. New Visions. Perfection serves to hold you back, it keeps you playing small when you could be courageous and larger than life, at least part of the time.

  • Expecting your vision to turn out exactly the way you thought it would.

I have one word for you: impossible. There is NO WAY your reality can be a perfect match to your wishes. You couldn’t possibly know all the nuances of your vision as you stare in the far-off distance—the people you will meet, the unexpected difficulties, the BETTER options. This vision is a way for you to move forward into your best life. Not the outcome of a reliable soothsayer.

  • Not allowing yourself out of the contract.

You THINK you want something. Like I thought I wanted to be a radio star. I didn’t. It was a lot of work with little pay and even less positive reinforcement. I pushed myself to claim my “dream” for 4 years before I gave up. It wasn’t going to stick. I regret not moving on sooner. There are many benefits to gain from “going for it.” Confidence. Understanding. And one less idea to consider. Your visions are not always a long-term love match, if you know what I mean.

  • Expecting that you will magically “be all you can be” for your vision.

Your vision might be perfect for you. And you might be perfect for that new reality. Most likely, you will have to GROW INTO your vision. You could meet the perfect person to love for the rest of your life, but you’ll need skills for resolution. You could be offered a once-in-a-lifetime PR opportunity, but you still have to give your new audience something to engage with, to buy. Remember, your vision is designed to make you better. Get better.

  • Expecting it all to be one amazing amusement park ride.

No matter how amazing it is to sell a book, or step of the stage to the sounds of applause, or get recognized from a commercial someone saw on television, behind every success there is has been an immense amount of boredom. Sometimes, to complete a task, you have to sit there, skin crawling with irritation as you cut and paste or count it out, or painstakingly review. Don’t question your vision because it’s boring. Life can be boring. Make it worth by contributing those boring actions to the pursuit of your vision.

So, how has it been, your journey to your purpose? Are you feeling strong? Do you need to make some adjustments? The answers are all there, and I promise you, the information you have gathered will bring your purpose into focus. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is a waste. You only have to find the meaning. So dig in!
