Six ways to point your life force in the direction of your dreams

It is the time of year for resolutions and while I am spending a good amount of time thinking about what went well and what I want to do differently, I am focusing more on what I can do to point my life force in the direction of my dreams.

Your energy is boundless. Are you fully grasping this amazing fact? Every day you spend alive on this planet, you wake up with energy. It’s just there, interacting with your environment, lifting people up or bringing them down. We feel it all from you: anxiety, fear, courage, excitement, amazement, without you saying a word.

It’s a gift we receive without thought, but for this week, I want you to think about where you want to go and learn to “lean in.”

So what does it mean. And how do we do it, point our life force in the direction of our dreams. It’s actually very simple, although it at first will feel awkward and irregular. You get intentional. You choose. No more victim. You are the gladiator for your dreams.

We do a lot of things to convince yourself we are actually moving towards our dreams. Sure you are expending effort, but is the effort just making you tired, or truly advancing you to your best life? (Check out the graphic- I describe 4 ways you are diminishing your life force).

  • Constantly stopping and starting.
  • Going just slightly off center.
  • Allowing circumstances and people to pull you back.
  • Swerving around your focus with distractions and then getting “back on track” over and over.

  • You are mindful.

You want to lose weight. You want to fall in love again. You want to build a business. You want to change personality traits that have been around for most of your life. Here’s the thing: you probably aren’t going to be able to achieve a massive shift in your life accidentally, while you are busy paying attention to everything else in your life. If you want to make a change, you will pay attention. To how you are feeling. What you are thinking. The thoughts and actions that are moving you in the right direction and those that really don’t.

  • You will change your thoughts intentionally in the moment.

One of my least favorite things people do during a fight is to put off conversations until later. They let the sun go down on their anger and allow the energy to dissipate. They think it solves the problem, but in reality, they haven’t truly dealt with anything. They just allowed the energy to float away, but the problem still remains. Gathering and “pointing” your life force requires you to take care of business in the moment. If you want to change the way you deal your kids on the sideline at their game, and you feel yourself slipping into “crazy-parent’ mode, you force yourself to be quiet, and figure out why you are going so crazy, right now. It’s the only way to change.

  • You allow no excuses.

There are a great many reasons why you do things the way you do. People are mean. You don’t have enough time. You have a tendency to do things a certain way. It might even be genetic. As you channel your life force into your intention, you learn to push away excuses. Guess what excuses do? They keep you where you are. If you want to change your journey. If you are ready to receive your dreams. There are no excuses, even when it make sense. You are interested in change, not making yourself feel better in the moment.

  • You do not pull back from the power that is returned.

It’s the funniest thing, watching people begin to get what they want and then recoil in fear. In fact it’s very normal. I do it all the time. I gain and lose the same 10 pounds. And when I start to see the changes I wish for, I “reward” myself with 10 brownies. I get honest with a friend and then become afraid I will lose her and recant. Riding the power of your life force means you don’t pull away. You stare into the sun. You live in the courage and receive the returns, which are usually whatever you put into the situation multiplied many times over.

  • You notice and appreciate the changes.

This is not a time to be modest. It’s not a time to be greedy and unappreciative of your changes. As you point in the direction of your dreams with intention, focus and action, you notice not just the problems but also the positive changes. It’s not self-congratulatory. It’s not self-aggrandizing. It’s simply smart. Because noticing good will only lead to more good. Celebrate you are on the right track and keep going!

  • You work to commit your behavior to muscle memory.

Finally, as you work your life force to your advantage, you repeat it until it is thoughtless. You don’t let yourself out of it. You know you can’t beat it, but you can do “it” enough times that it becomes natural to you. Dear friend, it is possible to create awe-inspiring change. It’s possible to think back and remember when it was hard for you. And once you master this change, you will have the courage and insight to tackle something newer and even more challenging.

This is how it works.

This is the journey to your best life!
